Rebound

Things have become somewhat strained between me and Kreed this past week, and while I miss him like crazy, miss our closeness, I’m not ready to forgive him yet. Everything is still too raw, and having him close by would be like choosing to pour salt into my wounds. Ridiculously painful, and avoidable. I’m still helping him during the show, but I’m doing what I can to remain professional and assist him almost methodically through each step of his act.

Trystan has come back almost every day to see me, and Kreed knows. I can’t exactly hide and sneak around. Light on my feet as I may be, I can’t shrink myself down at my own whim, although it would be a useful feat to have. I keep my distance from him when I’m with Trystan, and he does the same. I went into the city with him once, but I found it frightening and overwhelming with all the massive buildings, closely packed sidewalks, and the extreme amount of noise from the people and traffic, so we’ve since remained close to the boardwalk.

With him I’ve grown more confident in myself, and his lack of shame about being seen in public with me has begun to repair the trauma my parents caused when they effectively imprisoned me in the house whenever I wasn’t at school, before they finally disowned me.

Walking along the beach with Trystan next to me, I feel calm, like the gentle waves rolling onto the shore. The same waves I watched on my first night here dazzle beneath the sunlight. Trystan takes my hand after I tug my sunhat on more firmly to prevent it being dislodged in the light breeze. I stare down at our interlocked fingers and smile. He didn’t hesitate or second guess himself, or suddenly realize he’s made a mistake and let go. This here with him is everything I wanted but will never have with Kreed.

Trystan is surprisingly easy to be around, which is something I wasn’t prepared for, but have found that I really enjoy. There’s a strange familiarity to him, as if I’ve seen him somewhere before. But that can’t be right, I must be mistaken. It’s just from seeing him in the audience more than once. Stop acting crazy. I’ve caught myself wondering what it would be like to kiss him, whether his full lips are soft or firm, and every time he’s noticed his lips quirk up. Subtlety is not my strong suit, and it’s glaringly obvious that I want to explore more than just the local geography with him.

Finally building up the courage, I take his hand in mine and let him stop rather than risk tugging him off his feet. I lean down, and realizing my intent he tilts his head back so I can press my lips against his. Our mouths move together, slowly exploring the new territory. I shove down the traitorous little whisper from my heart that says it’s too soon and I don’t really want him.
